IFK Göteborg is facing a difficult situation with criminal groups in the stands. The police have classified certain supporter groups as criminal networks.
What's happening?
The police have clarified their classification of risk supporter groups as criminal networks. Jens Ahlstrand, head of the police intelligence unit, says that there has been a mistake in communication and that they want to ”correct the picture”.
Why is it important for IFK Göteborg?
The relationship between the police and football supporter groups has been tense during the spring, especially in the Gothenburg area. For example, the police there, as DN previously wrote, have sometimes chosen to stand on the so-called supporter sections to get a better dialogue – but also to more easily identify people who commit crimes.
What's next?
On May 18, a police officer was taken to the hospital during the chaotic derby at Gamla Ullevi between Örgryte and IFK Göteborg. The match was interrupted and played out in front of empty stands. The police now want to correct the picture of the decision and clarify that it is individuals who are classified as criminal networks, not the supporter groups themselves.
